first impression

The graphic looks really cool, but the abundance of the grunge scratches looks a little bad.

The coding looks okay but not brilliant.

graphic

I really like the picture parts of the graphic, but I still think there are way too many grunge scratches. The light stock looks over edited, too.

I don't understand why the site name is "snapshock" (which is written on the graphic) but the url is amanda.paperanchor.org... maybe that's a decision made by Amanda's host?

The repeating background is really obvious because of the one, black, straight line that you can easily spot over and over.

coding

The main text is easy to read. The sidbar headers looks really bad and pixalated though. I don't know what the text effect on them is, but I would nix it.

The colors in the code, besides grey and black, include red, blue, pink, and green, which is really a pecular combination of colors. I understand that they're all in the graphic, but I think Amanda should've focused on colors that went nicely together. She could have done a red/blue theme, or green/yellow/blue, or red/orange/yelllow.

content

Visitor content includes banners, blend bases, css, icons, brushes, color palettes, reviews, textures, tutorials, "51 days", find a guy who..., Paul Harvey and riddle, no girl deserves this, she was only 5, blonde test, Chinese horoschope, colors and birthdays, world's easiet.

banners;
Only one is available, it's okay but a little cluttered with brushes.

blend bases;
People should be making their own. Amanda has already blended these anyway.

css;
Only one is available, it seems a little silly to offer this as content. Where does the visitor put the code?

icons;
Fairly boring.

wallpapers;
These are available in two sizes, which is nice. Some are incredibly plain while some are really attractive.

brushes;
Four are available. Three are paramore lyrics, which look interesting. It would be a lot more helpful if visitors could actually download them.

color palettes;
Having shades of grey for two of her six doesn't count as a color palette.

reviews;
I think for the most part... Amanda may actually be qualified to review other sites. Sort of.

Under the critera...

BLOG: How well is your grammar? Is it interesting? If Amanda knew some grammar she would know that you need an adjective there (good) instead of an adverb (well).

Typic out etcetera isn't that hard.

It's pointless to have the form up if it's not working.

textures;
These are light stocks and textures.

tutorials;
These seem easy enough to follow, though some seem like common sense.

The rest of the "content" isn't visitor content it's just interactive stuff wasting space. It should at least be moved to a different page, maybe "extras" would be appropriate. Or fun.

navigation

Why would Amanda put the navigation links down so far? Why wouldn't she want them closer to the top so people don't have to scroll around and look for them? Anyway, subpages include content, tutorials, amanda, and snapshock.

Resources are sited on the site page. That's good.

Her autobiography seems never ending.

overall

Amanda has obvious graphic talent, but she clutters. In her code she chose poor colors, but maybe that was a one time thing.

I would suggest moving all of the articles and what not off of the content page and onto extras or fun stuff or... just another page.

I'm curious as to what a completed review looks like, but Amanda doesn't post them. Or she hasn't gotten any applicants yet?

More interesting graphics for some of them. It's a little strange because some of the wallpapers look great. Maybe some are old and some are new?

comments

note: the cbox below is the same one on all review pages.

if you leave a comment... then refer to the name of the site. This review was for Snapshock

This cbox is for visitors to comment about the sites that have been reviewed. It is not for visitors' complaints, defending of friends, telling me how to review sites, or for juding my site. If you want to do one of those listed above, feel free to e-mail me at skylineillusions@yahoo.com which is the site e-mail that I check frequently; I don't feel as if there is a need for any one to e-mail me over these reviews, though. I check this cbox about once every two weeks, usually only if one of my friends says "Go look at that cbox!"
