Handstand

background information

first impression

While the layout is fairly cute, i don't understand the shell behind the site name, and I think the site name is in a bad font with a hideous gradient that fades from green to red.

graphic

It's very, very basic, but classy and nice. It all looks nice except for, as I've mentioned the site name due to the green to red gradient. Where the colors meet, a hideous color is created.

The ripped paper stock in the background looks great, though it may be hard to see against the white backgrounds.

coding

I think the background should have a repeating image (a texture), it's too plain.

The CSS is simple, too. I don't like how the same headers are used in the main div and sidebar. A line break tab at the top of each divider would fix the cut off problem for the headres.

It's just very plain... there's not much else to say.

content

Visitor content includes brushes, scans, light textures, icon textures, fonts, stock, layouts, and tutorials.

brushes;
These are nice for hand drawn brushes. It would be nice if more brushes were in each set, typically there are only four in these sets.

Are these for Photoshop? Are image packs available? How do we download them? There are no obvious links or explanations. (By the way: you click on them to download them, and they are only .abr brushes, no imagepacks are available.)

scans;
These scans are nice and have little previews. Well done.

light textures;
These are nice, though the "night" ones aren't very sharp.

The window ones are trippy!

So are the computer ones.

icon textures;
It would be so much more helpful if these were just full size textures that people could use on anything! Instead, they are only icon textures, which is stupid, because they're just cropped textures.

fonts;
Did Phoebe make this font?

stock;
These are textures.

layouts;
Only one is available. It's plain and simple, just like her site layout. It's basically black and white and boring.

tutorials;
These are nice photo tutorials, however, screen shots and showing visitors how the photo looks along the way would be so much more helpful than just text.

navigation

In the image map (which fades from red to green text, and doesn't look pleasing), subpages include content, site, blog, and exit.

Under the exit page there's a credits section, in which she has credited ten websites. It seems short but her site's not that big, I guess.

Affiliates are listed here, too, along with linkback buttons.

Site is site info and info about her.

overall

I like the simplicity of the layout, but I think it may be a little over simple. More interesting CSS would fix that easily.

More brushes per set! Downloads? Imagepacks? Come on now...

Nix the icon textures. Just offer textures!

Her stock images are textures.

More interesting graphics and CSS for the layouts... just more enthusiasm in general.

She would do well do add screen shots and image views along the way in her tutorials.
