Then I received an e-mail from Ai, in which she said she had been expecting the review
to be "quite longer going into detail about all of my pages and content."
It was roughly 515 words.
She didn't understand a lot of what I meant because of my lack of information
I provided on the subject.
She also said that in the future, I should work harder on giving one. I guess one is supposed
to be a review. The sentence is poorly structured... but we'll assume she means review.
So. In essence. It is now October 19th (12:01 am), and I'm going to go back and edit this
review a lot.
For Ai's convenience (and anyone who's curious), the starred areas are areas that have either
been edited/added to, or have been added. * = starred.
The completed review is roughly 3300 words.
The original review was completed October 18th; posted around 10 pm.
site: Deadly Nightshade
owner: Ai
reviewed: October 18th, 2008
It doesn't look bad, just plain. The colors are all very nice though.
Everything can be read easily, too.
The different headers between the main divider and the sidebar look good.
Using different fonts would have made it more interesting.
Visitor content includes avatars, desktop wallpapers, forum signatures, avatar bases, avatar textures, large textures, link banners, link buttons, patterned backgrounds, screen shots, transparent PNGs, tutorials, div layer templates, pop-up templates, special templates, and table teamplates.
*avatars;
There are a lot of subcategories! These are nice and actually have thought put into them.
There are twenty-two categories, which I will go through below.
*animals;
(1 icon) This icon doesn't look like the original image was of high quality, which is a shame.
*avatar the last airbender;
(2 icons) Why are there cartoon related icons? Would anyone actually use them? The first one looks
over sharpened while the second one looks over blurred.
*azumanga daioh;
(1 icon) A cartoon character with a weird background and "meow-ow" written along the bottom.
This icon doesn't look half bad, but it's not that nice.
*bleach;
(1 icon) All of tehse cartoon-related icons are getting boring and annoying; no one looks for
second grade cartoon avatars. Two characters with a pink filter. "Sucess" is written on it, which is a
typo. How unprofessional to have such a blatant typo.
Success needs to have two Cs and two Ss.
*card captor sakura;
(1 icon) These cartoon avatars are annoying. This one looks fairly nice, though not complex
in any way.
*celebrity;
(7 icons) It would make more sense to call this "celebrites" (the plural) instead of celebrity.
Some of these are nice. My favorite is the last one, I guess.
*interruption;
I'm interruptting this review to say that it's VERY inconsistent of Ai to have the "icon count"
next to each subcategory while the name of the page is "avatars." On each subpage the "icon count"
changes to an "avatar count." Pick one or the other.
*chobits;
(1 icon) It's very bright and white and slighty hard to see because of those two things.
*clover;
(1 icon) What's the point of 2/3 of the icon being blank, dead, white space?
*cowboy bepop;
(3 icons) Interesting! These are my favorite thus far. I have no clue who the heck these cartoon
characters are, and I never will know, for I'm too old to watch these cartoons.
*death note;
(1 icon) This appears to be a cropped picture with "L" in the top right hand corner. No time
has been put into this icon/avatar.
*dn angel;
(2 icons) What's a DN angel? These are well made, though the first one's original image looks blurry.
*foreign dramas;
(2 icons) I have no clue who these people are, but Ai hasn't made pleasing icons with their faces.
*full metal alchemist;
(1 icon) Oh, this one is nicel simple, but nice. I think simple is what Ai had been going for.
*nabari no ou;
(4 icons) I am incredibly fed up with these silly cartoons. Yes, there are four, but three of them are the same icon
with different color filters.
*naruto;
(1 icon) Simple icon.
*nosatsu junkie;
(1 icon) Oh, wow, it's animated. It's very plain though. The black and white was a bad choice, it was
already boring enough.
*other;
(3 icons) Haha that figures. Her best icon is lumped in the "others" category. The last one
on this page is the best I've seen; forget the two I mentioned way back up there. I LIKE THIS ONE
FOR IT DOES NOT HAVE A CARTOON CHARACTER.
*other anime;
(4 icons) =( and we're back to the cartoons.
*ouran high school host club;
(1 icon) A filter has been used. How original. How unique and creative.
*princess princess;
(1 icon) An icon with a boy? A girl? It says princess princess as the subcategory... but I'm not convinced.
*streett angel kurumi;
(1 icon) If I ever see another cartoon related anything I think I may barf.
*trigun;
(2 icons) And I'm off to the bathroom...
*desktop wallpapers;
None of these are too complex. It's nice how there are so many sizes to choose from though. That's really convenient
for visitors. If someone's going to take the time to ffer six different resolutions, you would think they
would take the time to make really nice wallpapers to begin with.
*forum signatures;
While these are very nice, I feel people should be making their own. At a first glance last time I thought
they were nice, but now I can see that two of them are basically just cropped pictures with ultimately
no work put into them, while the rest just have many filters and some text. CREATIVITY would be nice.
*avatar bases;
CROPPED PICTURES! People can crop their own pictures. It's a supreme waste of her time to just crop
pictures to 100x100 so she can offer them. What a waste! Jesus! There are twenty-four subcategories (angel sanctuary,
animals, aria, belach, british t.v., cartoon, celebrity, d. gray-man, death note, forgeign drama, game, get backers,
ghost in the shell, howls moving castle, inuyasha, kare kano, kiki's delivery service, nabari no ou, other
other anime, quran high school host club, pita ten, sailor moon, and zombie loan.
While there are a lot of categories, it's POINTLESS because people can CROP THEIR OWN PICTURES.
*avatar textures;
...why can't "textures" be offered that can be cropped to avatar size? How pointless. These are
another supreme waste of time and space. It's tedious to offer avatar textures when you could
just offer textures that people could use for anything.
*large textures;
These are cool, but not all are very practical for use. I can't see all of these being used, some, to be honest
are quite ugly and look too computer generated.
*link banners;
Oh wow; I'm so impressed that Ai can crop pictures. No, no, I already knew that from all of her pointless
avatar bases. These are, can you believe it?, pointless, too. People can make their own.
*link buttons;
PEOPLE SHOULD MAKE THEIR OWN! They are not inept and these are not very nice.
patterned backgrounds;
Nice! I can see people using these. They're nice and well made.
*screen shots;
What the heck would these be used for? Why would she waste her time screen capping her
precious, meaningless, silly cartoons?
*transparent PNGs;
All cartoon related? Who would use them? Does this girl have an unhealthy obsession or what?
*tutorials;
These are fairly easy to undrstand, but don't have screen caps to follow along with. It would be so much
more convenient for the visitors if she had added screen caps. It's just considerate, really. I've seen just about
every body else use screen caps.
*div layer template;
Also known as premade layouts? What's the difference? It's misleading to call them div layer templates.
Naming them something else doesn't make them any better.
For the first layout... in Firefox it's in the middle.; in Internet Explorer it's along the left. That should be fixed. One or the other. Consistancy, consistancy!
*pop-up templatess;
A premade pop-up layout. Great. Just call it a premade pop up layout instead of giving visitors this template
crap.
*special templates;
Why would someone want to use a premade layout with hiatus written over it? They can do that themselves.
Honestly... what a waste of Ai's time to make and put up! She's making more work for herself.
*table templates;
More premade layouts... which are tiring me.
Navigating the site is really easy! Everything is linked on the sidebar.
Now to go through every single page, which I never do because it's tedious and a complete waste of my time, but I'm going to do so this time becaues it is, apparently, what is expected of me.
*updates;
Well, this is the homepage where updates go. Not much to say about that! Hope I don't offend her by
not saying enough!
*awards won;
How vain that this is linked second on the site! It shouldn't be linked directly off the sidebar as the SECOND
link! People don't care about the awards she's won; they want content!
*contests joined;
For the love of god. No one really cares about the cartoon contests she's entered. Why is this the third link?
*F.A.Q.;
Finally, something that actually belongs on the sidebar.
Q: Do you take requests?
A: Yes! Head over to the navigation and under Interactive. You will find a link to the requests page there.
Why is there a period between interactive and you? Why is interactive capitalized? Hellooo? Proof reading?
Q: Do you link exchange?
A: Yes but, only by invitation. I have received a lot of link exchange requests so I decided to close open link exchanging.
Why is the comma after but? Proof read next time!
Q: Why don't you provide brushes?
A: The reason for this is because I only use Paint Shop Pro. I know how to make brushes but, most people use Photoshop.
Thus, I think it is a waste of time just to make P.S.P. brushes when only a small majority of people will use them.
Plus, there are a lot of great sites out there that provide both P.S.P. and Photoshop brushes.
Well... it's also a waste of her time to provide her abundance of useless content, so I think that's a pretty lame excuse!!!
Q: You have an MP3 player on your site. Can I request some MP3's?
A: Sorry but, no. I don't have time to go running around searching for MP3's.
MP3s should not have an apostrophe.
Q: What are Affiliates?
A: They are basically online friends that you are very close to and have a site similar to yours.
You visit their site frequently or as much as you can.
You might also chat with them online through a messenger. That is what an affiliate is.
Uhm. No. This is merely her definition of an affiliate. Whoever asked the question didn't ask what an affiliate (singular) is, they asked what affiliates (plural) are, so, ending her little definition with "That is what an affiliate is." was a bad idea.
*gifts;
Yes. Because gifts are sooo important. Gah. No one cares.
*hosting;
Jesus Christ this is a long list of requirements.
Before the requirements section, in the sub-domain hosting section, there shold be a comma before "too."
If the requirements were numbered it would be easier for me too see.
You must link back to me on ever page as your hostess. A text link is fine.
Gee. I'm so glad owning a domain hasn't gone to her head.
The second rule needs a comma before "too." However, having "you can also" and "too" is redundant.
You have to know HTML and CSS. I will not teach you them. If you only know how to use a page builder... your out of luck.
Corrections.
I will not teach you them = I will not teach them to you
your out of luck = you're out of luck.
ENGLISH IS A WONDERFUL LANGUAGE. THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS A PASSION OF MINE. STOP MURDERING IT!
In regards to rule seven... it's not that hard to just type out "etcetera." God forbid you have to type five more letters.
There are hosting plans? I guess I'll see those in a bit...
MP3s doesn't need an apostrophe!
You have to visit me(my site) at least once every two months. Let me know your alive.
Your should be you're.
You have to update at least once every two months. I understand we all have busy lives. Well, most of us. Anyways, if you cannot make the update deadline just give me a shout in the tag board or email me. Just let me know that your not ignoring your website.
Your should STILL be you're!
If you go on hiatus, are moving, etc. let me know.
Type out etcetera, please. Etcetera should have a comma after it.
Okay. She is not a professional company. It's so silly to offer these petty little sub-domain plans. Just give them all the same thing and help them out!
It's silly that she does monthly backups for one plan but yearly for another. While you're doing the backups, just do everyone!
It's so rude of her not to put the username and password areas into the form. I read in her requirements that they wouldn't be there, but honestly, what's up with that? Just make a new form, lazy.
*links in/links out;
A list of linkback buttons people can use (which should really be moved to its own page and labeled linkback or support. It's
misleading in here.), banners people can use (same goes for these), a list of those with whom she has
a link exchange with, link exchange requirements, and links out. Are the links out affiliates? I have no clue;
she's so vague.
TYPE OUT ETCETERA IN THE REQUIREMENTS.
Why should their site be in English? It's not like she's half decent in the language.
*portfolio;
Lists of past requests and past site templates. She's missing most of her past layouts, she's skipped
a lot of numbers.
Surprisingly enough I'm not impressed at all with any of this. It's time to amp up the creativity and get the hell away from these cartoons.
*rotations/listings;
Link exchanges again? Advertising? Listings? I guess random links out got thrown onto one page again.
*terms of use;
Ah yes, site rules!
No, no, no. This is bogus.
Under avatar bases... Give credit if you use them.
Ha! What a joke! She doesn't own those images and hasn't done anything to them! They're cropped pictures!
Under pattern backgrounds... No altering the design.
What does she care as long as it gets used and she gets credit?
Under desktop wallpapers... No direct linking.
THEY'RE DESKTOP WALLPAPERS! HOW WOULD ONE EVEN DIRECT LINK THEM IF THEY WANTED TO!?
Under forum signatures... No altering the design.
So, someone couldn't put their forum name on it? Then it's not really a signature. COUNTER PRODUCTIVE FTW.
Type out etcetera. Honestly, what's wrong with her?
Under screen shots, transparent PNGs... Give credit if you use them. Pardon me. She does not own those movies/cartoons or the rights to them. It's actually illegal for her to offer screen shots, let alone demand credit for them.
*webmistress;
Info about Ai/Julia.
*who linkes to me?;
This takes you off of the site, which is annoying.
According to the site, 394 people link to her. It says 589 link to me.
*credits;
A nice list of credits can be found here. Yay for credits. Did she credit the shows she screen capped?
*contact me;
A contact form... type out etcetera. If e-mail is in the middle of a sentence, you don't capitalize it.
*contest;
Interesting rules... e-mail shouldn't be capitalized, and etcetera should just be typed out.
Could I do Eowyn? Antigone?
*get reviewed;
Ah, yes. This links off to rules, guide, completed reviews. waiting list, and apply for a review.
*rules;
NUMBERS are so nice, she should start using them! Etcetera should be typed out. People aren't going to apply
for a review and then wait while she takes her time... they'll change the layout if they damn well please.
Why are hiatus, close, and move all capitalized?
Why is e-mail capitalized?
*guide;
First impression, site template, content, creativity, organization, spelling and grammar, and overall.
SHE is going to reviews someone else's GRAMMAR AND SPELLING? Please, as if.
It's incredibly stupid that she says that reviewees have to have their navigation in alphabetical order. It's just plain rude to rate people on the order of their navigation! It's crazy! I put mine in order of relevance. Obviously she doesn't; pompous girl has her awards listed second. And updates listed first! That's not very alphabetical!
*completed reviews;
One... let's take a look.
Has she heard of line breaks?
Solute is spelled salute... I love how she judges grammar and spelling as its own freaking section and has that typo in there!
Ones should not have an apostrophe (down in conent under avatars.)
Down in spelling and grammar... Hearts have nothing to do with spelling and grammar, what a twit.
"If I was on my mothers computer" should be If I were on my mother's computer.
PS brushes DOESN'T HAVE TO BE P.S.!!! P.S. is post script. Photoshop is one word, anyway. God damnit how dare she review the spelling and grammar of another person when her own English is a massacre.
Oh dear lord. She says "Don't forget to indent your paragraphs!" Is that a joke? She doesn't do that! If you skip two lines (the way this review does) you don't have to indent! What a joke.
Brushen... is not... even... a... word...
I wonder if that revieweee e-mailed her and told her she wasn't thorough enough... it doesn't seem like she commented on every page of the site.
*waiting list;
No one is listed. Shocker.
*apply for a review;
This would be an application.
*guess the character;
What a waste of space and time! Let me guess: a cartoon character.
*music player;
As if I would ever listen to one of these songs for more than three seconds.
*plugboard;
Self explanatory!
*polls;
This explains that. Then the window displayed "internet explorer
cannot display this webpage."
*request;
Request rules and form.
It's ridiculous to make them put in heights and widths.
*s.o.t.m.;
Still has that etcetera problem, doesn't she?
*tagboard;
A shoutmix chat.
*take survey;
This (rudely) takes you off of her site and off to some survey about her site.
*win an award;
A place where people can win carious site awards for nonsense.
Deadly Nightshade is a nice site, but doesn't offer much variety. Page after page of content featuring brain rotting cartoons is really a waste of time and space. I can't believe I went through every page just to comment on cartoons. How degrading.
Looking at the icons before she posts them would be a good idea. One has an obvious typo, and a lot are blurry.
All of the templates are PREMADE LAYOUTS. I don't know why she's trying to call them something else. If she's trying to start a fad - it's a stupid one.
She seriously needs to start proof reading. The number of typos on her site is ridiculous and annoying.
Some of her rules are just crap. She doesn't own the cropped images or the screen shots!
Her review (there's online one) is a joke! This girl has horrible spelling and grammar, yet reviews other people for those two things! She had several typos in the review and even made up a word.
I've already pointed out her typos up above. I'm sure I've missed a lot. It got boring pointing them all out. I'm not a spell check, I'm a reviewer. I wonder why the site name on the form and on the graphic is "Deadly Nightshade" but the URL is "thedeadlynightshade."
Some graphics could be more complex and interesting.
Not all of the content seems especially useful or helpful, and some should be deleted because of that.
What's the difference between a div layer template and a premade layout? NOTHING! So, she should stop pretending.
This cbox is for visitors to comment about the sites that have been reviewed. It is not for visitors' complaints, defending of friends, telling me how to review sites, or for juding my site. If you want to do one of those listed above, feel free to e-mail me at skylineillusions@yahoo.com which is the site e-mail that I check frequently; I don't feel as if there is a need for any one to e-mail me over these reviews, though. I check this cbox about once every two weeks, usually only if one of my friends says "Go look at that cbox!"
