site: Brilliant Mistakes
owner: Nnie
reviewed: January 4th, 2008
I'm glad to see that the site name and version can be seen and read easily though.
It's a little bland with the same font being used over and over.
I like how there's a little one sentence blurb under each section, that's nice for visitors that don't know exactly what they're looking for.
backgrounds;
Over half of them are just stripes, which are too simple to even offer.
The "victorian" ones may be nice, but the designs on them are too light to see.
The "other" section only has three, they're ok, but the first one is the best on the entire page.
brushes;
And yet, when you go to their page, each brush set has a preview, it's name, and a download link called "PSP." The image packs should be their own link, it's a little misleading this way.
(By the way: if you click the PSP link, it's a file download, perhaps the image packs are included?)
patterns;
Wow... these are... sort of hideous. I'm sorry, but I cannot see anyone using these for anything except filling up
their computer's recycling bin.
photo stocks;
Probably better known as "stock photos."
Credit is "requited" eh? Perhaps it is required.
These are interesting, I can understand people wanting to use them.
smilies;
These are cute, though they're not on the same line and it makes them look
sloppy.
Make more of these!
textures;
These are all pretty cool, and I'd like to use them.
icons;
These are really plain and have minimal effects on them.
reads;
I would put reads in a different section, personally. When I think of content, I think
of things that someone can use on their site, for example: brushes, textures, and resources.
tutorials;
Wow! There are a lot of tutorials here that seem like they'd be really helpful, nice job!
Some of them seem a little too simple: adding brushes, adding patterns, bordered text, curved text, dropshadowed text...
services;
These are really great for those of us that get lost along the way.
reviews;
Ew. Why are the review screen shots so pixelated. Please, she really must make appropriate screen shots, it's not fair.
I lol @ the HTML Validator that she runs people's codes through. Please girl, that's making a machine do work for you. People want to know how their site looks and how their content looks and if it's appropriate and well made, what they can do to make it better, and what they should nix.
In the latest review...
A third of it is just the HTML Validator nonsense. Please. I am bored out of my mind.
Perhaps she has that number sign in their as her trademark so she can easily see when people steal her codes. A lot of people have small "errors" like that.
The grammar here is hellish!
You need a conjunction before you still use copyrighted images.
You want change should, more appropriately, be you want to change that or you want a change.
Pick should be past tense = picked
"...but I have problem with your date header" should be ...but I have a problem with your date header
Pick, again, should be past tense = picked
"...but like what I said" should be ...but like I said
"...seemed like out of place" should be ...it seemd out of place
I'm really tired of seeing "tannish" in this review.
Any, there are many more typos! However, I've grown bored with pointing them all out.
Oh, how degrading, she gives them a grade out of 5 points. That is really immature. Well, based on some of the boring content, hideous patterns, useless tutorials, out of place "reads" (which now I know, are probably riddled with typos), degrading reviews, loads of typos, extremely bland site layout, and boring CSS, I'd probably give this site a 2/5.
A short list of credits can be found off of the site info page.
Some of the content is too boring and bland, upgrade the content and make it interesting!
Quit it with degrading "you get __ out of 5 points" on the reviews. It's a little tacky, to be honest.
If Nnie downloaded more brushes (she only has one site listed under her credits), she would be one step closer to making very impressive graphics.
This cbox is for visitors to comment about the sites that have been reviewed. It is not for visitors' complaints, defending of friends, telling me how to review sites, or for juding my site. If you want to do one of those listed above, feel free to e-mail me at skylineillusions@yahoo.com which is the site e-mail that I check frequently; I don't feel as if there is a need for any one to e-mail me over these reviews, though. I check this cbox about once every two weeks, usually only if one of my friends says "Go look at that cbox!"
